This baby was advertised on Facebook Marketplace locally as a find in a house undergoing a refurb in a last ditch attempt to find her a new home before she was consigned to the skip. I hopped in the van and raced to save her!

Originally painted white with some questionable plastic bow-shaped cut outs attached to the front and a missing curtain, the original bevelled glass three-piece mirror was very much in tact and the overall piece was sturdy, strong and had plenty more life in her.

I painted her a china blue and then used blue floral transfers purchased online to add pretty accents to her drawer fronts and top. With a recent French toile-upholstered single bed purchase fresh in mind, I wanted to give her a floral theme that could lend itself to more French country chic or a 50s kitsch aesthetic, depending on her eventual setting. The draw knobs had been painted over multiple times and had to be broken off so that I could replace them with some pretty porcelain blue ones for an easy updated look.

Next, the tricky part. I am no seamstress but knew she wouldn't look her best if I didn't replace her missing curtaining and pelmet so I cracked out my nan's old sewing machine and took apart a king-sized bedding set purchased online for the job. Add some curtain tape and new hooks and she was ready to go! (I'm making this sound easy - the sewing, fiddling with an old sewing machine and trying to get the frill right actually took me ages - the air was blue at points, but at least that was in-keeping with the colour theme...).

After a hunt online (and some help from my mother!), I picked up a little stool to complete the set that was in great condition, just needed a coat of paint, some florals and a quick recover to match.

And voila - there you have it! Slightly outside of my normal preferred style but I learnt a bit from this one, gave sewing a real go and tried out furniture transfers (with much success) for the first time!

Delighted!
