Cantilever Chairs

I picked up these cantilever chairs months ago - they were in a sorry state of disrepair and one was missing a seat altogether. They needed a complete refurbish but I knew that the frames themselves were in good shape and would be worth the work.
I re-cut a replacement seat from some ply and then set to work. Removing an old attempt someone had made at recovering previously and the old degraded foam where it was still present, I striped the chairs down to the frames.
Purchasing new firm foam for the seat pads, I cut four new sections and glued them to the seat bases using an adhesive spray. After this, I covered each pad in a layer of wadding, teasing the strands around the edges to soften the overall finish. Recovering the seats was easy - this then just required some nice retro-inspired fabric and a staple gun, and then finishing the undersides in a black fabric.
The back rests were more difficult. These required a recover with layers of wading to make them comfy, and some of the new fabric. The back side of the rests were fashioned from thin pads of plastic foam that were then covered in the upholstery fabric and secured in place using staples, adhesive glue and then fabric glue to give a nice clean edge.
Eve the original screws were ruined and so lastly, these were replaced with some nice shiny new ones and the seats and back rests secured in place.
Dead proud of these ones - they really are stunning.
