This French two-seat couch features a curved design with deep buttoning and baby blue damask upholstery.
This style is sometimes referred to as a "chapeau de gendarme" or a "kidney-shaped" settee and vintage features detailed hand-worked fringes along the base. These couches are frequently constructed with hardwood frames and traditional upholstery techniques and this one is no exception. The upholstery needs cleaning but is in exceptional condition with almost no snags or sagging, all fringing intact and with original deep-buttoning adornment. Upholstery feels to be traditional horsehair.
One of two two-seaters available, along with a pair of matching armchairs. In excellent condition for the age and very much useable in a modern home.
Where I cannot be certain of the age of the piece, the stuffing feels to be horsehair and thus suggested pre-1950 and therefore would not be subject to current fire safety standard rules.
